Bowdle of America

This line of Bowdlers comes directly from the Bowdler of Harlescott and Shrewsbury pedigree recorded in the Heralds Visitation of Shropshire 1623, linking to Thomas Bowdler (born 1623).

In around 1658 Thomas Bowdler emigrated to the Province of Maryland, America and was granted land by Lord Baltimore as one of the early settlers of the state. In records he dropped the ‘r’ to start the Bowdle line.

The town of Bowdle, South Dakota, USA was named after Alexander Milton Bowdle (1849-1893), a member of this line.
